Before & After

The guest bedroom & bath in this client's home was in need of a major update.  She described the space as "out of sight, out of mind", as it one of the few spaces in her home that still looks like it did when they built the home a few decades ago.  We chose a calming and sophisticated yellow & gray palette.  The walls and ceiling were painted Modern Gray, by Sherwin Williams, and a plush cream carpet was installed.  Bedding, window treatments, and an upholstered headboard were custom made for the project.  The client's existing bookcase and chair were given a face-lift also.  The bathroom was updated with cabinet refacing, new hardware, marble countertops & floor tile, fresh wallpaper and a custom shower curtain {yes, that's peach laminate and peach carpet in the before picture!}.  The client acquired the bedside tables, mirror, and lamps....a few things need to be tweaked and the bookcase still needs to be accessorized.

{Feedback from the client}
"WOW! That's all I can say about the guest room.  I think it's the prettiest room in the house.  I am so pleased with the way everything worked out. Thank you so much for your input and guidance.  I can't wait to start another project..."

Happy Friday

Even when weeks are challenging {especially these last few}, something usually seems to go really right on Fridays and helps the stress dwindle for the weekend.  This week was no different - problems that needed solutions, phone calls that had to be made (again, and again), deadlines that needed to be crunched, well, you get it.  But I had a nice happy moment this Friday afternoon and thought I'd share.

Remember that yellow & gray project I'm working on?  We'll be wrapping up installation on Monday {fingers crossed that it will wrap up}...my client has guests arriving on Thursday!  I designed a custom headboard for the project, using a beautiful Hickory Chair lace embroidered fabric.
The headboard was picked up today {thanks M.S.} from my upholsterer, and I'm so pleased with how it turned out.
I changed my mind at the last minute and had him put the lace portion on the outside facing {rather than the solid} and I'm so glad I did.  Isn't it beautiful?
Hopefully Monday works out to be a successful day and I think I'll post some before and after pictures...maybe.  I hope you've had a happy Friday moment and if not, just think, the weekend starts in just a few hours - get happy about that!

Client Project: Guest Quarters in Yellow & Gray

Wish me luck...I'm off to a meeting with a new client that wants to give her guest quarters {bedroom & bathroom} a fresh new look.  I met with her at my office last week and she showed me a picture of a fabric that inspired her and a console that she would like to consider using in the space.  The next step is what will happen today - a meeting in her home for me to see the actual space and to work through the many fabrics, trims, furniture options, finishes, paint colors, tile options, etc.

Top left is specifically with the bedroom in mind; I'm thinking window treatments over on the top right; lower left is bathroom.  That stack in the lower right corner is what I like to call "the reserve" - items that might possibly work into the mix but not at the top of my list right now.  I like this meeting to be very loose and open-minded.  It's easy to toss aside a fabric that doesn't work in the mix and keep the creatives juices flowing when it's not attached to some ridiculous presentation board {that's for design school when environments are perfect & there's no real client with an opinion around}.

We'll get a game plan together today and then I'll move on to refining the design and pricing out the project.  So here I go.......
