Really?

Wow, I can't believe I haven't taken the time to blog since August!  That's terrible of me.  I guess I didn't realize it had been that long, since I do try to consistently post to the Facebook page.  If you're not a fan of the Shelly Windham Interior Design page, I encourage you to check it out and become a fan/follower.

I really can't begin to catch you up on 3 months in one little blog post.  This fall has provided the office with lots of design projects, to which I am very thankful.  I'm in the midst of several renovations, two new kitchens, and a handful of other very interesting projects. In the weeks to come, I'll try better at posting about these projects.

This past month I participated in The Great American Teach In.  Oh my goodness, I was nervous.  The thought of speaking to two huge classrooms of 5th graders really was scary, but I think it turned out to be a great experience.  I spoke to the children about my profession and education - explaning to them how much math is involved {and how they should be soaking in all they're being taught} in the design & construction professions.  Then we did an activity together, which they really seemed to enjoy.  I told them that space planning really involves gathering the facts {related codes, needs of the client, etc.}, so I gave the "facts" about two different spaces and they space planned using small furniture cut-outs. 

Also this month, I attended the fall Renninger's Antique Extravaganza in Mt. Dora.  It was a great day, as always.  We found lots of inspiration and walked away with some great finds!

Last week, I took some time off for the Thanksgiving holiday.  My family and I traveled to North Alabama to spend time with family and friends, and get a little R&R.

Now it's back to the grind.  Wow, Christmas is quickly approaching and I have many deadlines for clients before they're ready to entertain guests!

Patriotic Design

I hope you all enjoy this long weekend celebrating our nation's birthday!  My 4th of July will be spent with lots of family and friends, eating watermelon, wearing red, white, & blue, and watching some spectacular fireworks.  I hope you find time to relax, enjoy, and reflect on all the freedoms we have here in the USA.

I'm not sure if you all noticed my facebook post on Wednesday evening.  I had just caught a news feature about "Made in America" manufacturing. Apparently it's making a "comeback" - from Mars candy bars to ATM machines.  All I have to say is, it's about time!  I'm proud to be an American {no, I'm not breaking out in song}, proud to live in this free land, and proud to buy quality products built in this country by American hands.  Did you know that about 90% of the products I sell my clients are made right here on US soil?  I encourage you to explore buying "Made in America" when you're shopping for your home. On the right side of this blog is a list of many of my vendors, many of them in the U.S. - I encourage you to explore, and ask me questions.

Happy July 4th weekend!

Luck of the Irish

Well, it's a day late, but Happy St. Patrick's Day!  I hope you all had fun celebrating yesterday.  I must tell you that I love any holiday that focuses on celebrating with a special color!  And since green is one of my favorites {and since I've got some Irish blood running through these veins}, I love celebrating this holiday!

I had full intentions of making these.

Oh well, maybe next year.  We did however manage to enjoy a delicious green dinner - angel hair pasta with pesto sauce {= green spaghetti, per my 3 yr old son}.

So what if it's a day late....I'll leave you with some green inspiration for you to enjoy this weekend.
